On Thursday, September 24th, 2026, at approximately 6:10 A.M. a deputy tried to make a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 49 at Hargraves Corner. The vehicle did stop until it reached a farm shop North of Hargraves Corner. The deputy asked for a driver’s license and was given a Guatemalan identification card. The deputy returned to his vehicle and ran a check with I.C.E. to see if the subject was wanted. The deputy then returned to the vehicle to make contact with the other 2 subjects in the vehicle. The deputy asked the 2 subjects if they had any I.D. At about this time a Rector officer arrived to back the deputy up. The 2 subjects excited the vehicle; the front passenger immediately pulled a mask over the lower part of his face. The deputy realized that they were going to run and immediately tried to move to get the front passenger in custody. The deputy drew his Taser and ordered the subject to get on the ground; the Rector officer then handcuffed the subject. The driver of the vehicle then took off running West across Highway 49, into a field. The other individual went East and was found later by a Rector Officer hiding in a ditch. Deputies and Rector officers converged in the area East of Highway 49 trying to locate the subject. At approximately 7:25 A.M. a resident called and advised the subject was walking down County Road 481. Officers arrived and he was taken into custody. All 3 subjects were illegals from Guatemala, and wanted by I.C.E. The 3 subjects were taken to the Clay County Detention Center and were picked up by I.C.E early Friday morning.
