My mom was detained by ICE while dropping my sister off at school. She was followed by unmarked government vehicles, cornered, and taken. I only found out because our neighbor witnessed it and came to tell me. An ICE agent later dropped off her keys without explanation. This sudden event has left my siblings struggling with their mental health and missing their mom. I am doing my best to take them to doctors and therapy. My mother spent her life preparing me to be strong, to protect my siblings, and to keep going when life gets difficult. But nothing can truly prepare you for the moment when everything changes. I am her 20-year-old son, and overnight I went from being a son who depended on his mother to helping take care of my two younger siblings alongside my stepdad. We are doing everything we can to keep life moving forward while dealing with the pain and uncertainty of having our mother taken away from us. One moment can change everything. You wake up thinking it’s going to be a normal day, and suddenly you are trying to explain to your siblings why their mom is not there. You are trying to be strong for them while also trying to understand what happened yourself. We are facing a situation that has affected our entire family. Decisions made by people we will never meet have changed the path of our lives, and we are the ones left trying to pick up the pieces. My mother wanted what so many parents want: a better future for her children. She worked hard, loved us, and sacrificed so much to give us opportunities. Now we are doing everything we can to support her and make sure my siblings have what they need. The funds raised will help my mother get situated in Mexico, help with the transition she is facing, and help provide my siblings with necessities as they prepare to go back to school and adjust to this new reality. If you are able to donate, we are deeply grateful. If you cannot, sharing this fundraiser still helps our family more than you know. Thank you for taking the time to hear our story and stand with us during one of the hardest moments we have ever faced.
