TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - New video from Tuscaloosa Police shows a University of Alabama doctoral student being detained.Alireza Doroudi was detained by off-campus federal immigration authorities March 25 around 3 a.m.In the video you can see ICE agents escorting Doroudi who is wearing an orange shirt.A Department of Homeland Security spokesperson said, “ICE HSI made this arrest in accordance with the State Department’s revocation of Doroudi’s student visa. This individual posed significant national security concerns.”Immigration lawyer David Rozas said he is unaware of any allegations regarding national security issues.The university says due to federal privacy laws, they are limited in what they can share.Ryan Costello with the National Iranian American Council is calling on ICE to release information on whether Doroudi is being charged with a crime.“Did Mr. Doroudi commit a crime? Or did he not commit a crime, and if he didn’t commit a crime, why is he being held? Is this a free speech issue? Is this something else? If that’s the case, he should be free and go back to his study and complete his degree,” said Costello.
