(CNN) - A Texas man who is detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement will not be allowed to attend his son’s funeral.The family of Maher Tarabishi said ICE officials denied Tarabishi’s request to attend his son’s funeral.The man’s 30-year-old son died last week after a lifetime battle with a rare disorder that causes severe muscle weakness and heart problems.Tarabishi was detained three months ago during a routine check-in.An order previously allowed Tarabishi to stay in the U.S. as his son’s sole caregiver. The family said his son’s health declined without Tarabishi’s care.According to the agency’s website, ICE policy allows detainees to visit critically ill family members and attend funerals if escorted by immigration officials.The family said requests to let Tarabishi see his son before he died and to attend his funeral were both denied.The family’s attorney called the decision inhumane.The Department of Homeland Security did not respond to questions about why the request was denied.Copyright 2026 CNN Newsource.
