(SBG San Antonio)SAN ANTONIO - Students from more than 20 area high schools walked out of class Friday in a coordinated protest supporting immigrants and opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) policies.At Jefferson High School, roughly 100 students left campus mid-morning, first gathering outside the school before marching around nearby Woodlawn Lake. Students held signs reading “ICE OUT” and “ICE MELTS IN TEXAS” while chanting as they walked. The group later returned to campus and resumed classes.Video from the day also shows a similar walkout at Seguin High School, where students echoed the same message, standing in solidarity with immigrant families and criticizing ICE enforcement practices.“The youth is here, united for them, so we can stand against radical ideas being spread in our government right now,” said local student Liam.Friday’s demonstrations are part of a series of student-led walkouts that have taken place across the San Antonio area over the past several weeks.The protests follow a tense confrontation on Wednesday in Dilley between demonstrators and riot police. Protesters there called for the release of five-year-old Minnesota boy Liam Conejo Ramos, who is being held at the Dilley immigration detention facility. I want to see babies return home,” said local student Ariana.San Antonio ISD officials said they encouraged students to remain on campus during the school day.
