The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division conducted a three-day joint enforcement operation from Sept. 24-26, in coordination with U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard Sector New Orleans, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Grand Isle, New Orleans Air and Marine Operations, and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement – Enforcement and Removal Operations (ICE-ERO) New Orleans. The joint operation consisted of two maritime-based patrols conducted on Sept. 24 and 25, followed by a land-based enforcement operation on Sept. 26 in Plaquemines, Jefferson and Terrebonne parishes. The operation focused on commercial and recreational fisheries enforcement while providing enhanced operational support through coordination with federal partners. During the first two days of maritime operations, participating agencies encountered 54 individuals. LDWF enforcement agents issued one citation for an oyster harvest sanitation code violation. During the maritime operations, federal partners apprehended four individuals for violations of 8 U.S.C. § 1182, pending deportation proceedings. On the third day of operations, LDWF enforcement agents conducted land-based enforcement activities and encountered 45 individuals. Agents issued 11 fisheries citations and seized 22 fish, including 11 red drum, 10 black drum, and one spotted sea-trout. Fishing violations included: Possession of undersized red drum Possession of over-limit red drum Possession of red drum exceeding the 27-inch size limit Possession of undersized black drum Possession of undersized spotted sea-trout Fishing without a required non-resident license. During the land-based operation, federal partners apprehended 16 individuals for violations of 8 U.S.C. § 1182, pending deportation proceedings. LDWF Enforcement Division will continue to work as needed with local, state, and federal partners to protect Louisiana’s fisheries resources, promote compliance with conservation regulations, and maintain a strong enforcement presence throughout coastal Louisiana.
