NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has released a statement saying that the arrest of a Nashville reporter was due to a violation and having no lawful immigration status.ICE said that Estefany Rodriguez-Florez, a reporter for Nashville Noticias, is unlawfully in the U.S., which led to her arrest on March 4.Rodriguez-Florez was arrested during a “targeted enforcement operation.”ICE said that she entered the U.S. with a tourist visa in March 2021, which was reportedly only valid for 13 days. “She failed to depart the country and is in violation of the conditions of her visa and currently has no lawful immigration status. She will remain in ICE custody pending her immigration proceedings,” an ICE spokesperson said.ICE is adamant that claims of not having a warrant for her arrest are false.“ICE officers had an administrative warrant at the time of the arrest and theofficers issuing administrative warrants have found probable cause to issue the warrant,” the spokesperson said.Previous: Nashville reporter detained by ICE agents outside of gymTennessee State Representative John Ray Clemmons is calling for Rodriguez-Florez‘s release from custody:The Nashville Noticias reporter was with her husband, who is a U.S. citizen, when she was pulled over. Rodriguez-Florez’s attorney says she came to the U.S. legally, sponsored by her husband and has a pending green card application.She also has a pending asylum application after seeking refuge from Colombia. Rodriguez-Florez’s attorney said her life was threatened in Colombia due to Rodriguez’s reporting on the armed militia.The Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition has filed a petition and a bond motion has been filed with the immigration court.Copyright 2025 WSMV.
