Sergio Cerdio Gomez and his wife, Gabby, an American citizen, own a food truck in Kennewick called "Hibachi Explosion."Gomez has been on the path to citizenship for nearly three years and is now detained by ICE after attending an appointment with U.S Immigration in Yakima. His wife Gabby, showed us Sergio's paperwork seeking a permanent resident card, more commonly known as a Green Card. They filed this in 2022, and the government received it at the beginning of 2023. Then last week, there was an update online about their petition with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office in Yakima. They asked for an in-person interview, but when Sergio and Gabby showed up at the office, Sergio was escorted into a different room.Gabby waited in the lobby when an official came back out and told Gabby that Sergio was being detained on a warrant. She said that they didn't explain what the warrant was for. Gabby said that Sergio showed up to the interview because he had nothing to hide and wanted to do the right thing."If he didn't show up, it would have been a denial. He showed up, here we are. My husband is not a criminal, he's not a felon. He's a family guy and a business owner," said Gabby Gomez.Our newsroom reached out to both ICE and U.S. Immigration about Sergio's case, both by phone and email, but so far, no one has given us a response.
