ICE Detainee At Grayson County Jail Claims Not Receiving Treatment For Sickle Cell Anemia; Jailer Says Receiving All Meds Prescribed

LEITCHFIELD (07/29/26) — A woman being held as an ICE detainee at the Grayson County Detention Center is at the center of a controversy over her imprisonment and medical treatment. 34-year-old Sarafina Bukirwa was detained at the Muhammad Ali International Airport on July 22nd. Attorneys and family claim that she has valid work authorization to be in the US and had not received proper medication for sickle cell anemia. Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley told Louisville media outlets that Bukirwa is currently receiving and has been receiving all the medications that she is prescribed. Third District Congressman Morgan McGarvey is calling for her release from custody.
