Stand with AK: Community Support Needed for Family’s Urgent Move to Safety AK is a Native woman, mother, journalist, foster youth advocate, and nonprofit development professional who has dedicated her life to serving vulnerable communities. She is also one of the “Baldwin Park 3,” three women unjustly prosecuted for recording ICE activity in public spaces. In June 2025, AK responded to widespread ICE raids across Los Angeles and became a founding member of Occupy ICE LA, a 24/7 community encampment monitoring enforcement actions. On August 3, 2025, she was brutally detained, leading to a hospitalization and arrest by a DHS officer who has since been terminated. In September, she was mercilessly attacked by DHS again. After busting out her car window, AK was dragged out of the vehicle and then held without bond for over two months at MDC. As a result of her incarceration, AK lost her position as a nonprofit development director, and her family’s household income was cut in half. AK's family has been subjected to ongoing stalking and harassment. Her home address (where her young children reside) has been shared hundreds of times across various platforms, creating a sustained climate of fear and intimidation. In November 2025, AK was released under extremely prohibitive bond conditions, including home confinement and rigorous internet restrictions, which has kept her from working in person/online for the past six months. The family has since struggled to afford basic needs; such as groceries, gas and utility bills. In February, while traveling to her trial, the family's only reliable vehicle was totaled, leaving them without dependable transportation. Ten days later AK’s sister Leila passed away unexpectedly, bringing immense grief and yet another financial challenge for the family to navigate. Just when all hope seemed lost, supporters within the community identified a safe and affordable opportunity for the family to relocate to a new city.
