by WRGB Staff Thu, June 4, 2026 at 9:45 PMImmigrants detained in at least two raids in Lake Placid (WRGB File)LAKE PLACID, NY (WRGB) — More than 20 people have been detained following at least two Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids in Lake Placid in the past week.That's according to reporting from WCAX, the CBS station based in Burlington, Vt.North Country Immigrant Allies said on social media that multiple people were detained on May 28, in a parking lot on Mirror Lake Drive. Then, on June 2, seven employees on their way to work at a Lake Placid restaurant were stopped and detained. The organization is unaware of any local, county, or state law enforcement agencies being involved in either instance.Their June 2 post read in part, "NCIA has been in communication with the restaurant owners and community members and is working to support the individuals who were detained, as well as their families, coworkers, and loved ones. As has been the case with all of the detentions NCIA has been involved with in the North Country to date, every individual detained had authorization to work and was legally permitted to live and work in the United States."MORE: Albany City School District reacts to video circulating online involving ICESome of those detained were restaurant workers, and others had come to the region for a roofing project.According to WCAX, local law enforcement was not aware of either raid, and all those arrested were taken to a detention facility in Batavia, which is in Genesee County, roughly 300 miles from Lake Placid.
