NBC6 obtained the calls on Monday on the heels of a new report that alleges abusive practices at several of the state’s detention centers. The calls mainly come from staff reporting detainees going through medical or other issues at the Broward Transitional Center. "We have a patient in medical now. He fainted in the laundry room, and his blood pressure is very low," one caller says. "We have one of our detainees have a seizure and a possible head injury," another caller reports. "We have a detainee that I believe is unconscious," says another. "A female detainee said she saw a male detainee expose himself," says another caller. Local These calls were from the month of June. They mostly report medical situations that have been evaluated by doctors or nurses at the center, which is a detention center for immigrant detainees waiting for upcoming court hearings. The new report by the Human Rights Watch alleges abuse at three detention centers in Florida, including Krome Detention Center, the Broward Transitional Center and the federal detention center in Miami. In the 92–page report, the group determined that all three facilities violate international and U.S. standards. The reports also claim that nearly 72% of the migrants detained nationwide have no criminal records.= The report doesn’t include the new so-called "Alligator Alcatraz" facility, now at the center of a new lawsuit that alleges people detained at the detention center are not getting access to their attorneys. NBC6 has reached out to ICE for a statement but has not heard back yet.
