Federal agents arrested a Mexican national who previously faced removal from the country three times after he allegedly used a vehicle to strike an immigration officer in Northern California, authorities announced. According to a Department of Homeland Security news release, Homeland Security Investigations agents took Jesus Israel Garcia-Cobarruvias into custody on September 17 in Martinez, California. The charges trace back to an encounter on August 31, 2026, also in Martinez. Federal authorities reported that Garcia-Cobarruvias accelerated his vehicle toward U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers, struck one of them, collided with a government vehicle, and fled the scene. The impacted officer suffered non-life-threatening injuries, though officials noted the officer currently cannot walk without assistance. When agents tracked Garcia-Cobarruvias down in Martinez roughly two weeks later, officials said he refused verbal orders to exit his vehicle. Agents then used force to remove him from the car and place him under arrest. Police Lights (TFP) Records show Garcia-Cobarruvias had been deported three times prior to this incident. Officials also stated he has past criminal convictions for burglary, obstruction, and domestic violence. “This criminal illegal alien represents the worst of the worst that the hardworking men and women of ICE are targeting and removing from our communities every single day,” said DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. “This Department will not tolerate violent assaults on our brave law enforcement officers who keep us safe. DHS will hunt down and bring to justice anyone who engages in this dangerous behavior.” Garcia-Cobarruvias remains in federal custody pending legal proceedings.
