Camden Restaurant Owner Returns After 8 Months in ICE Detention

CAMDEN, N.Y. -- A Camden restaurant owner has returned home after spending eight months in federal detention.Federal agents arrested Jian Hao Zhang, owner of China Moon Restaurant on Main Street, in July and took him to an ICE detention facility in Batavia.A spokesperson for ICE told the Syracuse Post-Standard that an immigration court judge ordered Jahng to leave the country by July 2000, but he did not.Neighbors described seeing ICE agents put Zhang into a black SUV with blacked-out windows.Community members sent 150 letters of support asking for his release, and politicians also pushed for him to come home.Zhang is now back with his family, and neighbors said that he's planning to reopen the restaurant.Residents praised the restaurant’s fresh food and said the town is excited for its return.A neighboring business said they have already seen Zhang back at work and that he looks well.The family is known for sponsoring local sports teams without seeking recognition, and people in Camden want to respect their privacy as China Moon prepares to reopen.
