Fedor Zarkhin / oregonlive.com (TNS) McMinnville High School students staged a walkout Monday to protest federal immigration enforcement, days after agents detained a high school senior on his lunch break. About 300 students walked out of school “in response to the ICE activity in our community last week,” McMinnville School District Interim Superintendent Kourtney Ferrua said in a statement. Videos on social media showed hundreds of young people and others lining Northwest Adams Street, many holding signs protesting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. ICE agents detained 17-year-old Christian Jimenez on Friday while he was driving his father’s car during the school’s lunch break. According to a video shared by Jimenez’s brother, the teen told officers he was a U.S. citizen, but they detained him anyway. Ferrua said classes were continuing as usual this week. “Our goal is to provide a normal day of learning as much as possible,” Ferrua wrote in her statement. “We are continuing to support our students who have been impacted by recent events and are working collectively with community partners to meet their needs.” Four U.S. citizens were detained in Oregon last week, advocacy group Oregon for All said, including two women who were filming ICE activities. ©2025 Advance Local Media LLC.
