A corrections recruit with the Cumberland County Jail was detained by Immigration & Customs Enforcement agents on Wednesday as part of an enforcement action the Department of Homeland Security has called "Operation Catch of the Day."The man, whose name has not yet been released, was pulled over by agents just after 5 p.m. in Portland's Bayside neighborhood. Video obtained by Maine's Total Coverage shows the arrest. The man can be heard shouting: "I'm a corrections officer, I work in Cumberland County, what's wrong?" as he was placed in handcuffs."All of them got out at exactly the same time and descended on the car and basically yanked the guy out and threw him in the back of the SUV," said Ben Bozeman, who witnessed the arrest. " It's pretty upsetting seeing them threaten them with a Taser was especially dark."Cumberland County Sheriff Kevin Joyce is confirming that the man is a corrections recruit and that he was informed by ICE of the arrest. The sheriff says he is working to get more information.DHS launched "Operation Catch of the Day" Tuesday, targeting what they claim are the "worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens."The Cumberland County Jail is one location where ICE detainees are being held; another is in Plymouth, MA.This is the second time a Cumberland County Corrections officer was taken into custody by ICE.
