BEAVERTON Ore. (KPTV) - A community rally was held Friday at Southridge High School in support of a Beaverton family after the father was detained by ICE and deported to Mexico. That family now says they are using what they went through to help others.“When immigrant rights are under attack, what do we do?’ ‘Stand up, fight back, ’” said a crowd chanting.A crowd rallied in support of Paulino Martin San Pedro, who was detained by ICE last Tuesday and then deported to Mexico. His son Eric Martin San Juan said his family is devastated.“The reality is none of us eat, none of us can eat our favorite foods anymore, nobody can enjoy anything, not until we’re together again,” said Martin San Juan.Now they have turned that devastation into fuel to get Martin San Pedro back and help others in their community.“This moment is not just about my family, but it is about making sure no family in Beaverton goes through this alone,” said Martin San Juan.SEE ALSO:Washington County has seen an uptick of ICE activity over the last month and a half, striking fear in many, even students going to school.“Even if they are safe at the school, there’s no guarantee that they are going to have anybody to go home to when they go home,” said supporter and Beaverton School District employee Dena Green.Now, with Martin San Pedro gone, that fear is only getting worse.“I see the nervousness and fear in my own household,” said family friend Yeimy Guijosa. “My parents have stopped going to work sometimes, and even, I’m the one running errands, we’re just trying to keep my parents inside and keep them safe from all this.”But with signs in hand and chants, the crowd said they will fight. Not just for Martin San Pedro, but for every person like him in their neighborhood.“Right now it’s my time to fight for him, fight for him to come home, and we’re going to go through the system, and if it’s possible, great. And if it’s not, I’m going to know I did everything in my power to get my dad back,” said Martin San Pedro.Martin San Juan said his family plans to take the support they have and pay it forward by helping other immigrant families.Copyright 2025 KPTV-KPDX.
