Fri, July 24, 2026 at 8:28 p.m. UTCPolice in Cedar Rapids released building security and body-worn camera footage showing the violent arrest of a protester outside a Department of Homeland Security/US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (DHS/ICE) facility on Tuesday, July 7.According to police, officers were attempting to arrest a separate individual, Scott Boylen, when Annya Mari intervened. Mari was grabbed and tackled to the ground by two officers, who are seen in the footage pinning her arms behind her back and zip-tying her wrists.The officers "utilized approved control techniques designed to safely gain custody of the individual(s)" and employed tactics "consistent with Department training and are intended to protect the subject, officers, and nearby members of the public from unpredictable actions," the department said.Mari told local media she has been protesting outside the DHS site for more than 20 years and had never been arrested before."I was confused. Very confused. I don't think I infringed on anybody's personal space. I don't think I was aggressive. I don't think I was a threat to anybody. I was wearing a sundress," Mari said.
